Taking a weight loss pill to lose weight, instead of following a doctor approved diet and exercise program, will often cause a reverse effect on those who take it. Generally, you will lose weight quite fast with a weight loss pill; but as soon as you stop taking it, the weight comes back twice as fast. This phenomenon has caused many desperate to lose weight, to become addicted to the weight loss pill they hoped would help them.
Unless the weight loss pill you are taking has been explicitly prescribed by a doctor, you should not be taking it. Too often, non-prescription weight loss pills claim to be comprised of herbs and minerals that supposedly aid weight loss. Unfortunately, these herbs are generally a form of ephedra, which can cause an addictive rush of energy. If you really feel that you must take a weight loss pill, the following prescription medications have been approved by the FDA for weight loss:
- Phentramine
- Sibutramine, and
- Orlistat
But unfortunately, even these “safe” weight loss pills have been linked to serious side effects. If your doctor offers you a prescription for a weight loss pill without first attempting a program consisting of a strict diet and a moderate exercise program, please be sure to get a second opinion. No one should ever attempt to lose weight with a weight loss pill before first trying a reduced-calorie diet, and a physician approved exercise program.
A weight loss pill may provide the fast weight loss results you want, but do you really think the consequences are worth it?
